Abstract

Background, perioperative nursing is a procedure includes the pre, intra, and post phase. The roles of nurses are as caregivers, community leaders, conveying the information, defenders, and researchers. The nurse's duty during the pre-operative phase is as an educator. Objective, this study aimed to determine the relationship of nurses during pre-operative with the understanding of post-operative on surgical patients in PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method, the method of this study used descriptive correlative and cross-sectional approach. The technique of sample used accidental sampling. The researcher involved 74 respondents consisting of 37 patients and 37 nurses. The instrument used a questionnaire by a Guttman scale and observation sheet. The data analysis used univariate and bivariate. Result, the results of this study were the nurses with D3 education were 26 respondents or 70.3%, the old nurses who working since 6-11 years ago were namely 22 respondents or 59.5%, the nurses with sufficient understanding of pre-operative were 21 respondents or equal to 56.8%, the patients with elementary education level were 29 respondents or equal to 78.4%, the patients with sufficient understanding of post-operative were 22 respondents or equal to 59.5%. Conclusions, in conclusion, the relationship between the nurses when pre-operative with postoperative understanding of surgical patients could be obtained of significant value sig. (2-tailed) between two variables, namely p value= 0.042 <α = 0.05. Recommendation, further researchers could be carried out in determining the effectiveness of nurse pre-operative on the patients’ willingness level when operative-post.
