Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major cause of death worldwide and is also the most common disease suffered by the elderly. Hypertension is a high diastolic blood pressure of at least 140 mmHg or a systolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg. High blood pressure is not only a high risk for suffering from heart disease but other diseases, namely nerves, kidneys, and blood vessels, the more there is an increase in blood pressure, the greater the risk. One way to prevent complications of hypertension is by giving hypertension exercise therapy. Hypertension exercise therapy is an action (activity therapy) on clients who have high blood pressure, and movements that are carried out regularly and organized for people with hypertension that aim to launch or reduce intra-vascular pressure. Objective: Describe nursing care by implementing hypertension exercise to reduce blood pressure in the elderly. Method: The case study used used descriptive data collection techniques obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation. Respondents were three patients who suffered from hypertension. The instruments used are: nursing care format, SOP, and observation sheets. Result: Implementations that are carried out in accordance with the intervention include monitoring vital signs, especially monitoring blood pressure, performing relaxation techniques and hypertension exercise therapy. In an evaluation that was carried out for three days, the problem of pain and sleep pattern disturbances was resolved and the intervention stopped, the results were that the patient had no pain and was able to sleep. His blood pressure also changed after hypertension exercise therapy. Conclusion: Based on the results of the research, hypertension exercise therapy was able to reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, but the results were not significant.
