Abstract

Background:Hypertension has become a major problem in public health, especially in the elderly people. Their level of fitnesshas decreaseddue to there duced number of body cells. Elderly gymnastics may lower blood pressure. Objective:This study aimsto determine the effectof elderlygymnasticsto decrease blood pressure of hypertensive patientsin Banjareja village. Methods: It is a quasi experimental research. The samples were 33 respondents taken by total sampling technique consisting of female elderly aged >60 years old who suffered frommild hypertension as 140/159mmHg up to160/179mmHg. The blood pressure was measured byusing a digital tensimeter branded OMRONSEM-1. Data were analyzed by descriptive analyses, pair samples t test for systolic pressure and Wilcoxon test for diastolic pressure Result:Statistical analysesshowed significant differences of blood pressure measured before and after elderlygymnastics in both systolic (p =0.000) and diastolic blood pressure (p =0.000). Elderlygymnastics may decrease the blood pressureof elderly hypertension people. Conclusion:.There was an effectof elderlygymnasticsto decrease blood pressureof hypertensive patientsin Banjareja village.Elderly gymnasticsmay lower blood pressure
