Abstract
Background: Dysmenorrhea is a complaint of pain in the lower abdomen that occurs on the first day of menstruation. To reduce dysmenorrhea pain in adolescent girls can be done with pharmacological or using drugs and nonpharmacological which is easily done through the application of progressive muscle relaxation. Objective: To provide an overview of nursing care with acute pain problems with the application of progressive muscle relaxation to reduce dysmenorrhea pain in adolescent girls. Methods: This study used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The data collection process used interview and observation techniques. Respondents of this study consisted of 3 children aged 12-15 years who experienced acute pain. The progressive muscle relaxation action was carried out 3 times which was practiced directly. Dysmenorrhea pain scale is measured by numeric ranting scale using observation sheet before and after progressive muscle relaxation. Results: After taking progressive muscle relaxation action for 3 meetings, the results of dysmenorrhea pain decreased from an average scale of 6 to 2. Recommendations: It is hoped that further researchers can apply progressive muscle relaxation by combining with other therapies so that the results are maximized.
