Abstract

Background: Hypertension is characterized by an increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure which shows a number of more than 140/90 mmHg for two consecutive examinations. Some of the risk factors that affect hypertension are age, where one of the conditions related to aging is sleep disorders. Lack of sleep can lead to metabolic disorders and the contributing endocrine can lead to cardiovascular disorders resulting in hypertension. Objective: To determine the relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of hypertension. Methods: This study uses a correlational descriptive quantitative method. A sample of 52 respondents using the total sampling technique. The research instrument used The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Data analysis using the Spearman-Rank test. Research Results: The majority of respondents had poor sleep quality as many as 32 out of 52 respondents (61.5%). There was a significant relationship with a significance result of 0.001 p-value < 0.05 with a Correlation Coefficient value of 0.438. Conclusion: The results of this study show that there is a relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of hypertension in Sidomukti Village. Recommendation: It can increase public knowledge, especially people with hypertension, can regulate and control sleep quality.
