Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anxiety among postpartum mothers worldwide is between 17% and 22%. Numerous cases of anxiety in postpartum mothers can have negative consequences if not addressed. The finger-holding relaxation method is one intervention that can be implemented to reduce anxiety. Purpose: To describe nursing care for postpartum mothers with premature babies who are experiencing anxiety-related nursing problems. Method: This study employs a case study method, with a sample size of five participants. Anxiety levels were assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale for Anxiety (PSAS) both before and after the intervention. The intervention was conducted over a three-day period during the care process and took place in the mornings when the patients reported feeling anxious. Nursing Care Results: The nursing care problem identified was anxiety. The nursing intervention for anxiety reduction involved the finger-holding relaxation method, which was performed for 10-15 minutes in accordance with standard operating procedures for three consecutive mornings. Evaluation results from the five patients indicated a reduction in anxiety levels. Conclusion: The use of the finger-holding relaxation method had a positive effect on reducing anxiety in postpartum mothers.
