Abstract

Background: Fever in children is a common problem that requires prompt management. Compresses using Erythrina subumbrans (dadap serep) leaves are believed to naturally reduce body temperature due to their flavonoid and ethanol content. This method is safe, simple, affordable, and in line with local wisdom. Objective: To carry out the effectiveness of Erythrina subumbrans leaf compresses in reducing body temperature in febrile children in the working area of Wanayasa Public Health Center. Method: This Study was a pre-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design was conducted on children with body temperatures ranging from 37.5°C to 38.5°C. Temperature measurements were taken before and after the application of the compress. Results: Assessment was conducted on a child who had a fever with a temperature >37.5°C, leading to a diagnosis of hyperthermia with nursing intervention for hyperthermia management. The action taken was to compress with sappan leaves for 15-30 minutes. After the sappan leaf compress was applied, it was found that the child's temperature decreased to <37.5°C. Recommendation: Erythrina subumbrans leaf compresses can be an alternative initial treatment for mild fever based on local wisdom. Further large-scale studies are needed to strengthen scientific evidence
