Abstract

Background: The developmental stage of families with elderly members occurred when individuals were over 60 years old. As people entered old age, changes in bodily functions led to a decline in physical health, making them more susceptible to diseases such as hypertension. Hypertension could cause various complications and significantly impact health, potentially endangering lives if not properly managed. General purpose: This study aimed to describe the outcomes of family nursing care during the developmental stage of old age, specifically addressing ineffective family health management in hypertension patients. Method: The research utilized a case study method, focusing on five families in the elderly developmental stages, each with a member suffering from hypertension according to defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The assessment of the five clients revealed that the average age was between 61 and 64 years, with the majority being female. The primary nursing problems identified were ineffective family health management and disturbed sleep patterns. The planned interventions included helping the family recognize and address the problem, care for affected members, modify the environment, and utilize health facilities. Implementation involved conducting hypertension exercises for three weeks, with sessions held twice a week. Evaluation showed that after the intervention, the average blood pressure of the five clients decreased to 128.8/83.8 mmHg, with an average reduction of 38.6/19.4 mmHg. Recommendation: Community health centers should enhance hypertension education and health promotion, and incorporate hypertension exercise activities as a complementary therapy.
