Abstract
Background: Hypertension may be defined as systolic blood pressure averaging 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure elevated to 90 mmHg. High blood pressure can be a serious problem when poorly maintained. Hypertension therapy can be categorized into non-pharmacological and pharmacological therapies. One of the alternative non-pharmacological therapies is light massage. Light massage is a therapy that involves gentle touch on certain parts of the body to relax muscles, ease pain, reduce tension, and improve blood flow. Objective: This study aims to investigate how light massage affects blood pressure reduction in hypertensive people in the small village of Karanggedang, Sruweng. Research method: The research used a pre-test and post-test design with one group. The sample consisted of 35 hypertensive participants. The study instruments included observation sheets and light massage procedures conducted before and after the therapy. Research: The study found significant effects of administering light massage therapy on lowering blood pressure. Bivariate analysis using Wilcoxon tests showed a substantial reduction in the average blood pressure value before and after light massage therapy in hypertensive participants (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: Light massage therapy has an effect on lowering blood pressure in hypertensive people in the village of Karanggedang, Sruweng. Recommendation: Light massage may be used as a reference for nonpharmacological therapy to lower blood pressure in hypertensive individuals.
