Abstract

Background : Diarrhea in children can trigger skin damage due to prolonged diaper use, which causes friction and an increase in microorganisms in the urine and stool. This changes the pH of the skin to alkaline, activating enzymes such as proteases and lipases, which trigger irritation and tissue damage. Olive oil is used as a topical therapy because of its ability to moisturize, reduce inflammation, and relieve skin redness and dryness. Objective : Apply olive oil therapy in nursing care for children with diarrhea with impaired skin integrity. Method : This research is descriptive with a case study approach. The instruments used were nursing care format, olive oil therapy SOP, diaper rash condition observation sheet after therapy, olive oil, and perineal care tools. The research subjects were 3 pediatric patients with a medical diagnosis of diarrhea. Olive oil therapy on the subject for 3 days Results : After the intervention with olive oil therapy twice a day for 3 days, there was an improvement in the degree of diaper rash on skin integrity as seen through the observation sheet, which showed that there was a decrease in the degree of diaper rash in all respondents. Before the administration of olive oil, respondent 1 had a moderate degree of rash, while the other 2 respondents were at a mild degree. After three days of olive oil administration, the diaper rash decreased to mild and very mild degrees. This change was also followed by an improvement in signs and symptoms such as decreased redness, increased skin elasticity, and improvement in skin texture which was previously rough. Recommendation : Olive oil therapy can reduce the rate of diaper rash in diarrheic children with skin integrity disorders
