Abstract
Background: The 2018 WHO report shows that 28%-35% of people aged ≥65 years worldwide experience falls every year and this incidence increases with age. One way to reduce or prevent the incidence of patient falls in Japan has developed a technology called sleep scan with the Nemuri SCAN brand. Objective: to determine the level of risk of falls in the elderly at the Social Welfare Corporation Tenjinkai Kounoshima Geriatric Health Care Facility. Method: This research is a quantitative descriptive research. The samples taken were 40 elderly patients taken using purposive sampling technique. Results: The research results show that the characteristics of the elderly at the Tenjinkai Kounoshima Geriatric Health Service Facility Social Welfare Company are mostly aged 86-90 years, numbering 19 respondents (47.5%). Meanwhile, for gender, the majority were women, numbering 29 respondents (72.5%). Most of the use of sleep scans at the Social Welfare Corporation Tenjinkai Kounoshima Geriatric Health Care Facility for 5 years was 36 people (90%). Conclusion: The level of risk of falls in the elderly after using sleep scans was mostly in the low risk category, numbering 18 respondents (54.3%). Recommendation: Nurses should increase their role in optimizing the use of sleep scans in implementing patient safety, especially preventing the risk of falls in elderly patients
