Abstract
Background: A disease of the respiratory system that often affects children is bronchopneumonia. Children with bronchopneumonia need to be given inhalation therapy. However, children tend to be fussy and uncooperative during inhalation procedures. Inhalation therapy will be more effective if inhaled consistently in the respiratory system during the inhalation procedure. An effort to make children more cooperative is through play therapy. Pop-Up Book play therapy has an effect on the child's cooperative level. Objectives: To describe how Pop-Up Book play therapy was used in nursing care to improve child's cooperation during inhalation therapy procedure. Methods: This research used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The case study used nursing care format instruments, nebulizer inhalation therapy tools, Pop-Up Book, SOP for Pop-Up Book play therapy, and observation sheets of children's cooperative level. The subjects were 3 paediatric patients with a medical diagnosis of bronchopneumonia. The implementation of play therapy on the subjects was carried out during the inhalation procedure. Results: The assessment found a nursing diagnosis of ineffective airway clearance with airway management interventions. Children's cooperation during inhalation procedures without being given play therapy, the average score is 40% (uncooperative). Implementation of nebulizer therapy with Pop-Up Book play therapy during inhalation procedures. The average score increased to 88.3% (cooperative), with improved clinical outcomes so that ineffective airway clearance was resolved. Conclusion: Pop-Up Book play therapy can improve children's cooperativeness during inhalation procedures.
