Abstract

Background: Uncontrolled long-term hyperglycaemia can lead to symptoms such as tingling sensations and pale skin through various mechanisms. It can also cause atherosclerosis, thickening of the basement membrane, and changes in peripheral nerves, ultimately resulting in ineffective peripheral perfusion (Sari and Sari, 2022). One non-pharmacological treatment for ineffective peripheral perfusion associated with hyperglycaemia is warm water foot soaking. The increase in temperature triggers vasodilation, which helps improve blood circulation to the feet. Objective: To provide an overview of nursing care for patients with diabetes mellitus experiencing peripheral perfusion problems through the application of warm water foot soak therapy to improve blood circulation. Method: This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The study aims to identify nursing problems related to patients with type II diabetes mellitus and their blood glucose levels. Data were collected through interviews and observations. Results: The implementation of interventions for the nursing diagnosis of ineffective peripheral perfusion showed positive changes. The actions have been taken included identifying changes in sensation, monitoring skin changes, and measuring water temperature. Evaluation over three sessions indicated reduced tingling complaints, increased foot moisture, and reddening of the toe tips, signifying improved circulation. Recommendation: The application of warm water foot soak therapy can be an effective intervention for improving peripheral tissue perfusion in patients with diabetes mellitus. Patient education regarding the importance of this therapy is also highly recommended.
