Abstract

Background: Elderly was the last stage of the family development process. A person was considered to be entering old age when he had passed the age of 60 years and over. Diseases associated with the elderly were often called degenerative diseases, one of which was joint pain. Objectives: Describe nursing care at the stage of elderly family development with joint pain problems. Methods: This study used a case study method and was conducted with 7 times of meetings. The data collection process was carried out using interview techniques, observation, and physical examination. Respondents consisted of 3 families with one family member experiencing joint pain disorders. Results: After carrying out nursing care for 7 days, the nursing problem of family coping inability in the elderly with joint pain was partially resolved through health counseling and the provision of warm compress therapy for 20 minutes. Warm compress therapy was able to reduce the level of pain in the elderly. Recommendation: The results of the innovation of providing warm compress therapy for 20 minutes showed that the innovation was effective in reducing the scale of joint pain in the elderly.
