Abstract

Background: pain in children is a complex problem, subjective in nature. Preschoolers will respond to pricking or injection. Pain may occur during infusion. The prevalence of the main cause of pain in 200 children treated in hospital was due to the installation of an IV. One intervention that can be carried out by nurses is providing non-pharmacological methods such as distraction techniques, namely watching cartoons. Objective: to explain nursing care with the acute pain nursing problem of Acute Gastroenteritis (GEA) in children when installing an IV in the Gatotkaca Room. Method: descriptive, case study approach. The case study subjects were 5 pediatric patients who experienced acute pain due to infusion. Data collection using observation techniques, interviews and documentation studies. Results: The results showed that after being given the distraction technique, namely watching cartoons, the child did not cry when installing the IV, reduced restlessness, active movements such as wriggling, bending and jerking decreased, the pain scale reduced from 10 to 2, the pain scale from 9 to 1. Conclusion: The innovative action of distraction techniques, namely watching cartoon films, is effective in treating acute pain.
