Abstract

Background: The use of antibiotic drugs globally continues to increase with a greater percentage found in developing countries with 30-80% of hospitalized patients receiving antibiotic drug therapy. Pnemunoia, one of the main therapies using antibiotics in Indonesia, also continues to increase from year to year, recorded prevalence rates increased from 4,8% in 2018 to 10,8% in 2023. Research Objective: To determine the description of antibiotic use in pneumonia patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital, Gombong. Methods: Descriptive study with retrospective data taken by purposive sampling technique on 89 medical records of hospitalized pneumonia patients in 2024. Results: Patients were predominantly aged ≥60 years (53.93%), slightly more female (51.69%). The most common diagnosis was community-acquired pneumonia. Levofloxacin was most commonly used (52%), the most common combination was Ceftriaxone + Levofloxacin (25.64%). The cephalosporin group was most dominant (40.88%). The duration of therapy was most often 3–5 days. Conclusion: Single antibiotic Levofloxacin and combination antibiotic Ceftriaxone and Levofloxacin were most commonly used. Cephalosporins were the most common antibiotic class. Duration of therapy was mostly 3-5 days. Keywords: Pneumonia, Antibiotics, Hospitalization, PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital 1 Student
