Abstract

Background: Hypertension in geriatric patients increases every year and is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease. In Dr.Soedirman Hospital there are variations in the use of the combination of amlodipine and candesartan with amlodipine and irbesartan is often used because of its effectiveness and milder side effect profile. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the effectiveness of both therapies to support the selection of the optimal regimen. Objective: To determine the treatment profile, factors associated with the effectiveness of MAP reduction, and compare the effectiveness of the combination of Amlodipine and Candesartan with Amlodipine and Irbesartan in geriatric patients. Methods: This study is a retrospective non-experimental study of data taken from the medical records of 75 geriatric patients in 2024 who meet the inclusion criteria. Analysis was carried out descriptively, chi-square test, and Mann-Whitney test. Result: The majority of patients received a combination of Amlodipine and Candesartan (70.66%). There was no significant relationship between age (P = 0.409) with an OR value of 0.615 or gender (P = 0.598) with an OR value of 0.667 on the effectiveness of MAP reduction. In addition, there was no significant difference between the two drug combinations (P = 0.288). Conclusion: The combination of amlodipine and candesartan with amlodipine and irbesartan is equally effective in reducing blood pressure without significant differences. Recommendations: Prospective follow-up studies are needed to assess the side effects and costs of therapy.
