Abstract

Background: The halal status of pharmaceutical products is a major concern for the Muslim population in Indonesia. However, only 13.27% of the 19,483 pharmaceutical products registered with BPOM in 2022 were certified halal. This raises concerns about the clarity of ingredients and the production process. This study was conducted at Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Kuwarasan Community Health Centre, where no previous research has been carried out regarding patients’ knowledge of halal medicines. Objective: To determine the level of patients’ knowledge about halal pharmaceutical products at Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Kuwarasan Community Health Centre. Method: This research used a descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 331 patients were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire and analysed descriptively using Microsoft Excel. Results: The majority of patients were female (82.77%), aged 26–40 years (28.7%), had a senior high school education (58.6%), worked as housewives, and had a monthly income of IDR 1,000,000–1,500,000. The knowledge levels were classified as good (94.56%), fair (4.53%), and poor (0.91%). Conclusion: The majority of patients that have a good understanding the importance of halal pharmaceutical products. Recommendation: Future research is recommended to analyse the relationship between patient characteristics and knowledge levels statistically, and to consider qualitative approaches to explore patients' perceptions and attitudes more deeply.
