Abstract

Background: Death cases in 2020 reached 14.5%, which is the largest contributor to deaths among children under five. Risk factors for pneumonia in young children do not only affect individual children. There are three main factors that can increase a child's risk of developing pneumonia: environmental factors, the child's own health, and family behavior. Factors that influence individuals include birth weight, age, vitamin A, nutritional status, and immunization status. Immunization is the process of giving vaccines to the body so that the body has immunity against a disease. Immunization can prevent infections from triggering pneumonia. Therefore, it is important to know the history of immunization and administration of vitamin A with the incidence of pneumonia. Objective: To analyze the relationship between history of immunization and administration of vitamin A with the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers. Method: This research method used is quantitative correlation with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were taken from 75 toddlers aged 9-60 months who were hospitalized in the Husna ward using purposive sampling technique. Bivariate analysis with Chi-Square. Results: Characteristics of patients with pneumonia, the majority were aged 9-36 months, namely 52 people (69.3%), 49 people (65.3%) were female, with the majority of mothers' education having completed high school, 42 people (56%). The majority had a history of giving vitamin A to 38 people (50.7%). Complete basic immunization history of 33 people (44%). There is a relationship between immunization history and the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers with p value 0.000. There is a relationship between giving vitamin A and the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers with p value 0.000. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the history of immunization and administration of vitamin A with the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Recommendation: It is recommended that further researchers develop this research towards factors that influence pneumonia, such as a history of exclusive breastfeeding, knowledge, economic status of parents, support from health workers so that it can reduce cases of pneumonia in toddlers.
