Abstract

Background: Uncontrolled hypertension in Type II Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients increases the risk of complications. Prembun Regional General Hospital applies varying treatments, including amlodipine–candesartan combination and ramipril monotherapy. This study analyzes their effectiveness to determine the optimal regimen for managing blood pressure in such comorbid conditions. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of amlodipine-candesartan combination therapy and single ramipril in hypertensive patients with Type II DM at Prembun Regional General Hospital. Methods: To compare the effectiveness of amlodipine-candesartan combination therapy and single ramipril in hypertensive patients with Type II DM at Prembun Regional General Hospital. Result: Most patients were aged 46–65 years (88.31%), and the majority were female (61.03%). The therapies effectively reduced blood pressure to target levels. The average initial and final blood pressure for the combination therapy group was 165/90 mmHg to 139/81 mmHg, while for the ramipril group it was 151/86 mmHg to 128/75 mmHg. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in effectiveness between the two therapies (p = 0.351; p > 0.05). Conclusion: Both amlodipine–candesartan and ramipril monotherapy are equally effective in lowering blood pressure, with no significant difference between them. Recommendation: Further prospective studies are needed to evaluate side effects, patient quality of life, and cost-effectiveness of the therapies.
