Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease that is commonly experienced by the elderly and can affect their quality of life. Family support has an important role in improving the quality of life of elderly people with hypertension, especially in emotional, instrumental, informational and assessment aspects. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and the quality of life of elderly people with hypertension at the Gombong II Community Health Center. Methods: This research uses a cross-sectional design with descriptive analytical methods. Respondents were 45 hypertensive elderly who were selected using total sampling techniques. Data was collected through family support and quality of life questionnaires, which were then analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: Most respondents had good family support (46.7%) and good quality of life (62.2%). The results of the analysis show that there is a significant relationship between family support and quality of life with a correlation coefficient of 0.316 (p=0.035), which means that the better the family support, the better the quality of life for the elderly. Conclusion: Family support has an important role in improving the quality of life of elderly people with hypertension. Family-based interventions are recommended to help older adults maintain their quality of life. Recommendation: Future research is expected to involve observation and in-depth interviews to find out more factors that influence family support and the quality of life of hypertensive elderly people.
