Abstract
Background: The background of this research is that diarrhea is the leading cause of infant mortality in Indonesia, with a mortality rate of 6.8% based on medical data and 8% based on symptoms. Factors such as poor environmental sanitation and improper dietary patterns contribute to the high incidence of diarrhea. Therefore, efforts to improve sanitation, educate mothers, and meet the basic needs of toddlers are very important to reduce the impact of diarrhea Purpose: The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and environmental sanitation with the incidence of diarrhea in children in the working area of Puskesmas Sempor I. Method: This research employs an analytical observational method with a retrospective approach. The sample consists of 99 respondents selected through random sampling using Slovin's formula from a population of 2,540 toddlers. Data analysis utilizes univariate tests to identify variable characteristics and bivariate tests to determine relationships between variables, with statistical analysis conducted using SPSS software. Results: The results showed that most mothers of toddlers were aged 26-35 years (69.7%), had junior high school education (39.4%), and worked as housewives (82.8%). As many as 52.5% had inappropriate eating patterns. In terms of sanitation, 50.6% met the standards. The incidence of diarrhea was recorded in 55.6% of toddlers. The Spearman's Rho test showed a significant relationship between eating patterns Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between dietary patterns and environmental sanitation with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in the working area of Puskesmas Sempor I. Recommendation: Recommendations for future research include conducting long-term studies to correlate other variables, such as inadequate water sources and education levels, with the incidence of diarrhea accompanied by dehydration in toddlers.
