Abstract

Background: Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a collection of physical, psychological, and behavioral symptoms that appear in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and have a significant impact on women's quality of life. Research Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical activity and stress levels with the incidence of PMS in undergraduate nursing students at Muhammadiyah University of Gombong. Research Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design, with 77 respondents from semester 3, 5, and 7, who were selected through purposive sampling method. Data were collected using the GPAQ, DASS 42, and SPAF questionnaires, then analyzed using the chi-square test. Research Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents had mild physical activity (55.8%) and moderate stress levels (51.9%). Most respondents experienced PMS with moderate symptoms (70.1%). Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between physical activity and PMS incidence (p = 0.000), as well as between stress levels and PMS incidence (p = 0.000). Conclusion: This study concludes that low physical activity and high stress levels contribute to an increased risk of PMS. Therefore, it is recommended that women, especially female college students, increase physical activity and manage stress to reduce PMS symptoms. Recommendation: This study can serve as a reference for further studies to understand risk factors for STDs in other groups, such as women of childbearing age who work or are married.
