Abstract

Background: Social support is crucial for individuals with mental disorders (ODGJ) as it positively impacts their psychological and physical health. The impact of community social support plays a significant role in enhancing stress resilience and can protect against psychopathological issues related to the problems an individual faces. Objective: The objective of this study was to describe the experience of community social support for families caring for individuals with mental disorders in the working area of the Sruweng Community Health Center. Method: This was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 142 participants was selected using the Slovin formula and the Medical. Study: Social Support Survey Instrument (MOS MSSS) questionnaire. The data obtained were processed using SPSS, analyzed descriptively, and presented in table form. Research Results: The study results revealed that 99 respondents (69.7%) had sufficient scores in the emotional support category, while in the appreciation category, 103 respondents (72.5%) had insufficient scores. In the information reception category, 70 respondents (49.3%) had sufficient scores. In the instrumental category, 84 respondents (59.2%) had poor scores, and in the social network category, 37 respondents (26.1%) had good scores. Conclusion: Community social support for families caring for individuals with mental disorders in the Sruweng Community Health Center working area was dominated by sufficient emotional support, insufficient appreciation, sufficient information, insufficient instrumental support, and good social networks. Recommendations: for future researchers include deepening the material, adding accurate data from reliable sources, and expanding the media to be created.
