Abstract

Background: Hair combing is a rehabilitation program that is often used to restore motor deficit function in non-hemorrhagic stroke sufferers. A decrease in the ability to move muscles in a member of the body in a patient who has had a stroke is due to experiencing weakness on one side of the body. Objective: The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of hair combing occupational therapy on the ability of upper extremity motor muscle strength in stroke patients at RSUD dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. Method: The method of this research is pre-experiment with a one group pretest-posttest design approach, with a sample of 29 people taken using purposive sampling technique Research Results: The results of the study were that most of the 18 respondents (62.1%) scored 3 on Upper Extremity Motor Muscle Strength Ability in stroke patients before Occupational Therapy and the majority of 16 respondents (55.2%) scored 3 on Upper Extremity Motor Muscle Strength Ability in stroke patients before Occupational Therapy. The results of the Ho analysis are rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that the hypothesis states that there is an influence of hair combing occupational therapy on the ability of upper extremity motor muscle strength in stroke patients. Conclusion: Occupational therapy by combing hair can improve the muscle capacity of the upper extremities and the ability to comb hair is getting better day by day. Recommendation: For further research, it is necessary to carry out other occupational therapy follow-up to increase upper extremity motor muscle strength.
