Abstract

Background: Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is an infectious disease that infects the respiratory tract in one or several parts. The part of the respiratory tract that is affected by infection is from the nose to the alveoli (lower tract. Karangkobar Health Center has 3382 toddlers, there are 1272 toddlers who visit coughing/difficulty breathing with 40 toddlers were affected by pneumonia and 1232 toddlers had coughs that were not. One way to overcome ineffective airway clearance is to use steam, nebulizers, or aerosol sprays such as nebulization and inhalation therapy, (Yanisa, 2019). Objective: To determine the effectiveness of simple inhalation using water vapor mixed with eucalyptus oil to overcome ineffective airway clearance in toddlers suffering from ARI. Method: Descriptive observation with a case study approach. The subjects in this study were 5 patients suffering from ISPA, children aged 1-5 years, children diagnosed with ISPA who had problems with ineffective airway clearance and the parents allowed the children to undergo simple inhalation therapy. This case study was carried out in March 2024. The results : In this case study, the results showed that the five patients experienced improvement and recovery, airway clearance became effective and complaints of cough accompanied by additional breath sounds decreased and resolved. Conclusion: Simple inhalation therapy using water vapor and eucalyptus oil is effective in overcoming the problem of ineffective airway clearance in toddler patients with ARI.
