Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a global health issue that can lead to serious complications such as kidney failure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and even death. Lifestyle factors, particularly unhealthy dietary patterns-such as excessive intake of salt, sugar, and saturated fats-are major contributors to the increasing prevalence of hypertension. Research Objective: To analyze the relationship between dietary patterns and blood pressure among hypertension patients at Permata Medika Hospital, Kebumen. Research Method: This study employed a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected from 100 purposively selected respondents at the outpatient of Permata Medika Hospital during April-May 2025. Instruments included a dietary pattern questionnaire, a sphygmomanometer, and observation sheets. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. Research Results : The majority of respondents were early elderly age group of (46-55 years : 57%), had elementary school education (57%), and were housewives (41%). Most had unhealthy dietary patterns (54%) and were categorized with hypertension stage 1 (77%). The Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between dietary patterns and blood pressure (p =0.000 < 0.05). Conclusion : There is a significant relationship between dietary patterns blood pressure among hypertension patients at Permata Medika Hospital, Kebumen. Recommendations: Future studies should explore other contributing factors to hypertension and provide a more detailed analysis of specific foods that should be consumed or avoided.
