Abstract

Background: Background: Diabetes mellitus is a significant health problem worldwide, including in Indonesia, due to its increasing incidence. Physical activity is a crucial aspect of diabetes management to lower blood glucose levels. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the body's calorie requirement for physical activity. Research Objective: To determine the relationship of physical activity therapy on increasing BMR in patients with diabetes mellitus. Research methods: This quantitative study used a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A non-probability sampling technique was used with 30 respondents. Bivariate analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. Research result: Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 and a Z-score of - 4.782, indicating a significant negative relationship between physical activity therapy and BMR in patients with diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between exercise therapy and BMR in patients with diabetes mellitus. Recommendation: The public is expected to understand the importance of physical activity to maintain the Basal Metabolic Rate and glucose levels by carrying out physical activity therapy independently.
