Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus gangrene patients undergoing treatment at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital have situational low self esteem problems. Positive affirmations are one option to increase self esteem. Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze nursing care for diabetes mellitus gangrene patients with situational low self esteem problems throught providing positive affirmations at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The research subjects were 5 diabetes mellitus gangrene patients with situational low self esteem. The research instruments were a nursing care format, SOP for positive affirmations and a Rosenberg’s self esteem measurement instrument. The act of giving positive affirmations four times during four days. Data were analyzed descriptively by nursing care. Results: Based on the client’s nursing care, the results showed that the highest mean self˗esteem score was the ability in positive affirmations for the second client from a score of 14 (low self˗esteem) to a score of 35 (high self˗esteem). The highest reduction was in the second client with an 8 score reduction in signs and symptoms. The mean score of signs and symptoms for the five clients before being given nursing care was 11.2 (36.13%) and after being given nursing care was 5.8 (18.71%) Conclusion: the result of innovative positive affirmation techniques in increasing self esteem have proven to be quite effective. Recommendations: It is hoped that nurses will pay attention to the importance of innovation in providing nursing care interventions to clients with diabetes mellitus gangrene.
