Abstract

Background, Diarrhea is one of the leading causes of child mortality and is often associated with improper complementary feeding (CF) practices, particularly related to hygiene. This condition highlights the importance of ensuring appropriate methods and types of CF to prevent diarrhea in children. Objectiv, To determine the relationship between the methods and types of complementary feeding (CF) and the incidence of diarrhea among children aged 6– 24 months in the working area of Ambal 1 Public Health Center. Methods, This study employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 85 children and their mothers were selected randomly. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation sheets and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results, The findings showed that most children received solid-type CF (76.5%) and were fed using hygienic methods (69.4%). Diarrhea occurred in 30.6% of the children. Statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between the type of CF and diarrhea (p = 0.416), but there was a significant relationship between feeding methods and diarrhea (p = 0.000). Conclusion, The method of administering CF is associated with the incidence of diarrhea, whereas the type of CF shows no significant relationship with diarrhea. Recommendation, Future studies are recommended to include nutritional status as an additional variable.
