Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that remains a global health problem and a major risk factor for stroke. Early detection is crucial to prevent disability and mortality. Patient knowledge and self awareness play an essential role in stroke prevention. BE-FAST education delivered through audiovisual media is considered effective because it provides information clearly and is easy to understand. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of the BE-FAST education model through audiovisual media on the knowledge and self awareness of hypertension patients at Puskesmas Petanahan. Methods : This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pre-test post-test design. The instrument used was a questionnaire. The subjects were 51 hypertension patients at Puskesmas Petanahan. Wilcoxon Signed Rank bivariat test was used to analyze the data Result: The statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a significant effect in knowledge and self awareness, with a p-value < 0.05, indicating that H1 was accepted. This demonstrates that BE-FAST education through audiovisual media significantly influences the knowledge and self awareness of hypertension patients before and after the intervention. Conclusion: Education delivered through audiovisual media has a significant effect on improving the knowledge and self awareness of hypertension patients. Reccomendations: Future research is advised to explore more varied audiovisual media and to consider patient characteristics in order to enhance the effectiveness of BE-FAST education.
