Abstract

Background: Postdural Puncture Headache (PDPH) is a frequent complication after spinal anesthesia, affecting 5-30% of patients. It can lead to significant discomfort and hinder postoperative recovery. While some risk factors have been identified, more research is needed to clarify the specific factors contributing to PDPH at RSUD Prembun. Objective: This study aims to determine the factors influencing the occurrence of PDPH in postoperative patients who underwent spinal anesthesia at RSUD Prembun. Methods: A correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was used. Data were collected from 65 patients using questionnaires and interviews with observation sheets, then analyzed using univariate and bivariate chi-square tests. Results: The study found no significant effect of age on PDPH (p=0.124). However, gender was a significant factor, with female patients being 12.4 times more likely to experience PDPH than males (p=0.021). Needle size was also significant; the use of a 25G needle increased PDPH risk by 14 times compared to a 26G needle (p=0.000). Additionally, patients who experienced multiple punctures had a 44 times higher risk of PDPH than those with a single puncture (p=0.000). Conclusion: Gender, needle size, and frequency of punctures are significantly associated with PDPH in postoperative spinal anesthesia patients at RSUD Prembun, while age is not. Recommendations: Attention to needle size and puncture frequency is crucial to reducing PDPH risk. Further research with larger samples and longitudinal designs is recommended to validate these findings and explore the mechanisms involved.
