Abstract

Background: Hypertension is the third leading cause of death after coronary heart disease and cancer. One of the non-pharmacological therapy efforts that can be done is by providing slow deep breathing (SDP) relaxation therapy and progressive muscle relaxation (ROT) can decrease. Objective: Describes nursing care for hypertension patients with acute pain nursing problems through slow deep breathing relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation in the Emergency Room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: The type of research is descriptive with a case study approach. The number of samples is five patients. The instruments used are assessment format, observation sheets, SOP for Slow Deep Breathing-Progressive Muscle Relaxation, and Numerical Rating ScaleS (NRS. Data analysis is carried out in the form of frequency tables and percentages. Nursing care results: The results of the study showed that five hypertension patients in the Emergency Room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital showed subjective and objective data that pointed to nursing problems related to acute pain. The interventions carried out were through pain management with the application of slow deep breathing techniques and progressive muscle relaxation. The implementation of nursing using non-pharmacological therapy in the form of slow deep breathing techniques and progressive muscle relaxation in the emergency unit was carried out for 1 x 60 minutes, before the patient was given analgesic drugs or scheduled for analgesic therapy. Slow deep breathing techniques and progressive muscle relaxation have been shown to be effective in providing comfort and helping to control the level of acute pain in hypertension patients. Recommendation: Non-pharmacological therapy using slow deep breathing techniques and progressive muscle relaxation can provide comfort and help control acute pain levels in hypertensive patients.
