Abstract
Background: The aging process is part of the human life cycle. The most common disease is hypertension. The elderly are significantly associated with four types of diseases, including hormonal metabolic disorders, joint disorders, and blood circulation problems such as blood vessel disorders, stroke, kidney, and hypertension. The risk of hypertension increases with age, due to blood vessels that experience decreased elasticity and require more effort in pumping the heart. The prevalence of hypertension according to WHO (2020) states that around 1.56 billion people in the world suffer from hypertension. Therefore, efforts are needed to reduce the number of hypertension, namely with Warm Compresses. Objective: Describe the results of the analysis of nursing care for elderly families with ineffective family health management nursing problems using warm compresses.. Method: This study uses a case study method. The subjects of this study were 5 families with ineffective family health management problems according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria that had been previously determined. Results: The main nursing diagnosis of the family is ineffective family health management. SLKI: Family Health Management Improved (L.12105) with the following outcome criteria: 1) The ability to explain experienced health problems increases, 2) Family activities to address health problems appropriately increases, 3) Verbalization of difficulties in carrying out prescribed care decreases. The interventions provided are Family Support for Care Planning (I.13477): 1) Identifying family expectations regarding health, 2) Identifying family resources, 3) Motivating problem-solving abilities, 4) Using existing health facilities in the family, 4) Creating optimal environmental modifications, 5) Informing the availability of health facilities in the home environment, 6) Encouraging the use of health facilities, 7) Teaching health care that can be done by the family by teaching warm compresses. The focus of the implementation is to do warm compresses twice a week for 4 weeks. The evaluation results showed a decrease in blood pressure in families who regularly do warm compresses. Conclusion: Warm compresses given to the five families of patients under management were effective in helping to lower blood pressure in family patients with hypertension. Recommendation: For further researchers, it is hoped that they can examine the effect of warm compresses on lowering blood pressure in the elderly.
