Abstract

Background: Hypertension is an increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, exceeding 140/90 mmHg on two consecutive occasions. Anxiety is a common psychological disorder among older adults with hypertension. One non-pharmacological approach is lavender aromatherapy, which contains linalool acetate, which has relaxing properties and can reduce anxiety, pain, and blood pressure. Objective: To find out the analysis of nursing care for anxiety in hypertensive patients with a combination of deep breathing relaxation and lavender aromatherapy. Methods: This case study employed a descriptive method, an approach used in this scientific work, involving a case study of five subjects, providing nursing care over three days. The interventions provided included a combination of deep breathing relaxation therapy and lavender aromatherapy for 30-45 minutes at each session. The research instrument used an anxiety level observation sheet (HARS) and standard operating procedures for lavender aromatherapy and deep breathing relaxation. Results: The results of the assessment before being given intervention with aromatherapy in hypertensive patients who experienced anxiety showed that of the 5 patients, patient 1 showed anxiety with a score of 18 (mild anxiety), patient 2 with a score of 20 (mild anxiety), patient 3 with a score of 16 (mild anxiety), patient 4 with a score of 26 (moderate anxiety) and patient 5 with a score of 22 (moderate anxiety). After being given the intervention, it was found that the average patient experienced a decrease in anxiety levels of 2-8 scores (moderate-normal anxiety) as evidenced by measuring the HARS anxiety level. Conclusion: The results of this case study with a combination of deep breathing relaxation and lavender aromatherapy have an effect on reducing anxiety levels in hypertensive patients. Recommendation: The combination of deep breathing relaxation and lavender aromatherapy can be used as a non-pharmacological action to reduce anxiety levels in hypertension sufferers.
