Abstract
Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a lung disease that causes breathing difficulties. The Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT) is a method of clearing the airways that does not require special equipment and increases sputum ejection. In COPD patients, ACBT improves other airway clearing procedures in terms of increasing expiratory flow and decreasing difficulty breathing. Objective: The purpose of this case study is to analyze nursing care for ineffective airway clearance in COPD patients. Method: This case study uses a descriptive case study approach. The case study included five COPD patients. Data is collected using observation, interviews, and documentation research procedures. Result: The case study findings revealed a decrease in shortness of breath, with the majority of patients having a high CAT score prior to receiving ACBT intervention, three having a low CAT score and two having a moderate CAT score after receiving ACBT. Recommendations: ACBT therapy is effective in reducing shortness of breath by COPD patients.
