Abstract
Background : Low Back Pain is a common complaint encountered by nurses, especially nurses who work in Japan as caregivers. The causes of LBP in addition to inadequate understanding of body alignment, obesity, persistent waist tension, and differences in leg length can all contribute to low back pain (LBP). Objective : To determine the relationship between nurses' knowledge of body mechanics and the incidence of low back pain in elderly nurses in Japan. Method : This study uses a cross-sectional correlative descriptive design. The research sample was 85 elderly nurses using non-random sampling techniques and instruments using questionnaires. Results: The majority of respondents who have good knowledge and do not have LBP complaints are quite high, namely 57 respondents (67.1%), respondents with sufficient knowledge and do not have LBP complaints are 7 respondents (8.2%), while respondents who have good knowledge but have LBP complaints are 17 respondents (20%) and with sufficient knowledge with LBP complaints are 4 respondents (4.7%). Based on the Spearman rank test, it was found that there was no relationship between nurses' knowledge of body mechanics and low back pain complaints in elderly nurses working in Japan (p = 0.343; r = 0.104) with a weak correlation strength. Conclusion: There is no relationship between elderly nurses' knowledge of body mechanics and low back pain in elderly nurses working in Japan. Reccomendation : It is expected that further researchers will conduct further scientific development regarding the working methods, skills, and knowledge of nurses, not only knowledge but also attitudes and behavior in using the principles of body mechanics when providing care for the elderly.
