Abstract

Background, The use of TikTok social media has increasingly become part of students’ daily activities and is believed to influence psychological conditions, particularly among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences who are vulnerable to academic stress. Objective, To determine the relationship between the intensity of TikTok social media use and stress levels among undergraduate students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong. Methods, This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 747 students, with a sample of 260 respondents selected using the Slovin formula and proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The research instruments included a TikTok usage intensity questionnaire and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Spearman’s rho test. Results, The majority of students had a moderate level of TikTok usage intensity 228 respondents (87.7%), while most students experienced moderate stress levels 162 respondents (62.3%). The Spearman’s rho correlation test showed a correlation coefficient of -0.022 with a p-value of 0.720 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant relationship between the intensity of TikTok social media use and students’ stress levels. Conclusion, There is no significant relationship between the intensity of TikTok social media use and stress levels among undergraduate students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong. Recommendations, Future studies are recommended to include additional variables such as sleep quality, social support, and coping mechanisms, as well as to apply different research designs to obtain more comprehensive results.
