Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a prevalent cardiovascular disease worldwide and in Indonesia, contributing significantly to the risk of complications such as kidney failure, diabetes, stroke, and heart failure. Objective: To analyze nursing care interventions for acute pain management in hypertension patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This study employed a descriptive case study approach involving five hypertension patients. Data were collected using the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Pursed Lips Breathing and an observation checklist. Results: All patients demonstrated a reduction in pain intensity following the Pursed Lips Breathing intervention. Patients I and V experienced a decrease in pain scores from 6 to 3, patient II from 6 to 4, patient III from 5 to 3, and patient IV from 5 to 2. Conclusion: Pursed Lips Breathing is a relaxation technique designed to regulate slow, deep breathing and can be effectively applied hypertension patients to reduce acute pain levels. Recommendation: The findings suggest that Pursed Lips Breathing may be implemented as a non-pharmacological intervention for acute pain reduction in clinical nursing practice.
