Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease that originates from low insulin levels or insulin resistance, which causes blood sugar to rise and other metabolic disorders. Type 2 DM is difficult to cure, but it can be managed by controlling blood sugar levels. Factors that influence blood sugar control in type 2 DM patients include lifestyle changes, understanding, routines of eating high-calorie foods, lack of physical activity, obesity, smoking, and sleep problems. Purpose: The objectives of this study were to determine the relationship between chronotype and diabetes mellitus and to determine the blood sugar levels of diabetes mellitus patients. Method: A quantitative correlational study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted on 53 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Kebumen 3 Community Health Center using total sampling. The analysis used in this study was the Chi-Square analysis. Result: The analysis results showed that 30 respondents (56.6%) with the Morning Chronotype had fasting blood sugar levels in the prediabetes category, while 23 respondents (43.4%) with the Evening Chronotype had fasting blood sugar levels in the diabetes category. The statistical test using Chi-Square yielded a P-Value of 0.000 < α 0.05, meaning that Ha was accepted, indicating a significant relationship between Chronotype (Sleep Pattern Type) and fasting blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
