Abstract

Background. Type II diabetes mellitus is a growing global health issue, with Indonesia ranking fifth worldwide in prevalence. It is driven by lifestyle factors such as sedentary behavior, which disrupts glucose metabolism and increases insulin resistance. Research Objective. This study aims to analyze the relationship between sedentary lifestyle and blood glucose levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus at Puring Community Health Center. Research Method. This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design, involving 52 respondents selected via total sampling. Data were collected using the Sedentary Behaviour Questionnaire and blood glucose measurements via glucometer. Research Findings. Analysis revealed that 53.8% of respondents experienced hyperglycemia, with a significant relationship between sedentary activity and blood glucose levels (p < 0.001; r = 0.737). These findings indicate that increased sedentary time contributes to poor glucose control in patients with type II DM. Conclusion. A significant relationship exists between sedentary lifestyle and elevated blood glucose levels in patients with type II DM. Recommendations. This study underscores the importance of interventions to reduce sedentary behavior as a preventive strategy in diabetes mellitus management.
