Abstract

Background, between January and February 2025, there were 1,390 cases of hypertension at Ayah 1 Community Health Center. Nursing management for hypertension can include non-pharmacological treatments. This management is an intervention that needs to be developed to address hypertension and anxiety, such as expressive writing therapy. Research Objective, this study aims to determine the effectiveness of expressive writing therapy to reduce anxiety in hypertension patients. Methods, his study used a quantitative design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A sample of 56 respondents was taken from the population of hypertension sufferers in Kedungweru Village, Ayah 1 Health Center. Data collection used a questionnaire. Results, of the study showed that most of the respondents were female (55 people) (98.2%), aged ≥45 years (43 people) (76.8%), had elementary school education (35 people) (62.5%), and had jobs as housewives (27 people) (46.4%). Most of the respondents before being given expressive writing therapy were in the moderate anxiety category, namely 26 respondents (46.4%). Most of the respondents after being given expressive writing therapy were in the mild anxiety category, namely 44 people (78.6%). There was a significant difference between the anxiety levels of hypertensive patients before and after being given therapy. Conclusion, it can be concluded that the provision of therapy has a significant effect in reducing the anxiety level of hypertensive patients, which is indicated by the dominant negative rank values (after < before). Recommendations, for further researchers, It is hoped that the results of this study in further research, other variables can be developed or added to be studied by further researchers,
