Abstract

Background: Nurses are highly susceptible to burnout. Studies have shown that as many as 50 nurses felt fatigued by their work, and 3 of them felt exhausted. One of the resulting impacts is the high turnover rate of nurses at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas. Social support for individuals can have positive impacts such as preventing burnout. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between social support and burnout among nurses at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas. Methods: This correlational study employed a cross sectional approach. A total of 213 nurses at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas were selected using proportionate random sampling, resulting in a sample of 139. Data was collected using the Revised-Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (R-MSPSS) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey for Medical Personnel (MBIHSS MP). Results: The majority of nurses were aged 26-35 years (80 nurses, 57.6%), female (73 nurses, 48.2%), held executive positions (119 nurses, 85.5%), and had a D-III degree (72 nurses, 51.8%). Most nurses had high levels of social support (51 nurses, 36.7%) and low levels of burnout (54 nurses, 38.8%). The analysis conducted between social support and burnout among nurses yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0,05) and a correlation coefficient of -0.422. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between social support and burnout. Therefore, the higher the level of social support received by nurses, the lower the level of burnout experienced by nurses at RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas. Recommendation: RSU Siaga Medika Banyumas should provide guidance to supervisors and colleagues to provide mutual social support to nurses in order to minimize burnout.
