Abstract

Background: Hemodialysis patients face significant challenges in maintaining fluid volume stability between dialysis sessions. Failure to restrict fluid intake leads to a surge in Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG). If the IDWG value exceeds the clinical threshold of 5% of dry body weight, the risk of fatal complications increases, including cardiac dysfunction and pulmonary edema. Research Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of fluid restriction knowledge and Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG) values in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong. Research Method: This is a quantitative study with a correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 122 respondents selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman’s Rho test to evaluate the relationship between fluid restriction knowledge and IDWG. Research results: The findings indicated that 49 respondents (40.2%) possessed knowledge in the "good" category, and 64 respondents (52.5%) had IDWG in the "mild" category. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between fluid restriction knowledge and IDWG, with a probability value (p) < 0.001 and a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.722. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between fluid restriction knowledge and IDWG, indicating that better knowledge regarding fluid restriction is associated with lower IDWG values in hemodialysis patients. Recommendations for further research: Future researchers are encouraged to explore other variables influencing IDWG, such as self-efficacy or family support
