Abstract
Background: Parotitis is an infectious disease caused by the Paramyxsovirinae RNA Virus. Parotitis occurs when one of the salivary glands, also known as the parotid gland, becomes inflamed. In pediatric patients with parotitis, it often begins with signs of fever or hyperthermia. Management of hyperthermic patients that can be done is by giving more fluids, increasing rest time, giving analgesics/antipyretics and warm compresses. Applying warm compresses to large blood vessels is an effort to stimulate the preoptic area of the hypothalamus to reduce body temperature Objective: To determine the effectiveness of giving warm compresses to treat hyperthermia in pediatric patients with parotitis. Method: Descriptive observation with a case study approach. The subjects in this study, namely 5 patients suffering from parotitis, were children under 15 years of age who suffered from parotitis and were treated in the UPTD treatment room at the Karangkobar Community Health Center, with problems: hyperthermia (37.6 - 40 degrees Celsius), parotitis sufferers who could communicate and work. the same, the patient was willing to be a respondent and underwent warm compress therapy for 3 days. This case study was carried out in March 2024 The results : In this case study, five patients experienced improvement and recovery, their body temperature decreased and returned to normal on the third day of intervention Conclusion: Warm compress therapy is effective for reducing body temperature in parotitis patients with hyperthermia problems.
