Abstract
Background: Elderly is the final stage of the human life cycle characterized by various physical, psychological, and social changes. One of the common problems experienced by the elderly is sleep quality disturbance. Living status, such as living alone or living with family, is suspected to influence the sleep quality of the elderly. Objective: This study aimed to describe the sleep quality of elderly living alone and elderly living with family in Nusawungu Village. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling was conducted using a total sampling technique involving 76 elderly respondents. The research instrument used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis to describe respondents' characteristics and sleep quality. Results: The majority of respondents were aged 60–74 years 58 respondents (76.3%), female 50 respondents (65.8%), and had no history of disease 42 respondents (55.3%). Based on living status, the number of elderly living alone and living with family was equal, with 38 respondents (50%) in each group. Among elderly living alone, most had poor sleep quality 26 respondents (68.4%), while 12 respondents (31.6%) had good sleep quality. Among elderly living with family, 21 respondents (55.3%) had poor sleep quality, while 17 respondents (44.7%) had good sleep quality. Conclusion: Most elderly in Nusawungu Village have poor sleep quality, both those living alone and those living with family. However, the proportion of poor sleep quality is higher among elderly living alone compared to those living with family Recommendations: The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for healthcare workers and families in improving attention, social support, and education regarding healthy sleep patterns among the elderly
