Abstract

Background: Elderly (elderly) is someone who has reached the age of 60 years or above. Judging from the health aspect, the elderly group will experience a decline in their health status both naturally and as a result of disease. One of the psychological problems in elderly people with DM is helplessness, the condition of helplessness arises as a result of someone negatively assessing themselves, the person also negatively views the life experiences they have lived so that there is no hope for themselves and the future. One of the therapies that can be given to overcome the problem of helplessness in the elderly is the modality therapy, namely gardening. Purpose: Explaining the analysis of nursing care for the elderly with helplessness by providing gardening modality therapy at the UPT Puskesmas Sruweng. Research methods : This research uses descriptive methods through a case study approach and a type of case report using nursing care studies to carry out nursing care studies. Nursing care was provided for 5 elderly people with DM with nursing problems of helplessness. Care was carried out over 4 meetings by providing gardening modality therapy. Results: After implementing it 4 times, the evaluation showed that the patient said he felt more confident and felt that he had abilities that were useful either for himself or for his family, especially for his children. In the results of the Beck Hopelessness Scale assessment, a score of >50 was obtained or it could be interpreted that the five patients did not experience helplessness. Conclusion : From the results of the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that gardening modality therapy is effective in reducing the problem of nursing helplessness in elderly people with DM. Recommendation: The Community Health Center is able to implement policies related to programs to increase self-esteem in the elderly by using gardening modality therapy.
