Abstract

Background: The postpartum period is a time of recovery following childbirth, often accompanied by various physical and psychological changes. One common problem encountered is ineffective breastfeeding, particularly among mothers who have delivered via caesarean section. This condition may result from a lack of knowledge, improper breastfeeding techniques, and inadequate nutritional intake. Since good nutrition significantly influences breast milk production and quality, nutrition education is a crucial intervention to improve breastfeeding success. Objective: To describe the implementation of nursing care for post-caesarean section patients experiencing ineffective breastfeeding through nutrition education at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This study employed a case study method with a descriptive approach. The subjects were five post-caesarean section patients with ineffective breastfeeding problems. Data were collected through assessment, observation, and questionnaires. The intervention consisted of nutrition education using a booklet, delivered over three days with ongoing evaluation. Results: The results showed that all patients experienced increased knowledge about nutrition and improved food intake after receiving nutrition education. Furthermore, breastfeeding status improved, as indicated by increased milk production, enhanced maternal breastfeeding ability, and a reduction in complaints related to ineffective breastfeeding. Recommendation: Nutrition education is recommended to be implemented routinely as part of nursing care for postpartum mothers, especially those who have undergone caesarean sections, in order to improve breastfeeding success and promote the health of both mother and baby.
