Abstract
Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is frequently associated with impaired peripheral tissue perfusion, which increases the risk of ulcers and lower extremity complications. Non-pharmacological interventions such as diabetic foot exercise aim to improve microvascular and macrovascular circulation and reduce symptoms of impaired perfusion. Objective: To describe the outcomes of nursing care through the application of diabetic foot exercise in improving peripheral tissue perfusion in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion. Methods: This study employed a descriptive design involving five patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus who received nursing care, including instruction and implementation of structured diabetic foot exercise over several sessions. Assessments included peripheral vital signs, peripheral pulse examination, capillary refill time, and functional status measurements before and after the intervention. Results: Following regular implementation of diabetic foot exercise, improvements in peripheral circulation indicators were observed, including faster capillary refill time, reduced complaints of pain and tingling in the lower extremities, increased palpable peripheral pulses, and improved ability to perform independent foot care activities. Additionally, patients demonstrated enhanced knowledge and adherence to daily foot care practices. Conclusion: The application of diabetic foot exercise as part of nursing care has the potential to improve peripheral tissue perfusion and enhance functional status in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion. This intervention is effective as a supportive non-pharmacological approach in managing peripheral complications. Recommendation: Nurses are encouraged to incorporate structured diabetic foot exercise into nursing care plans, provide education and adherence monitoring, and conduct regular follow-up. Further research using experimental designs with larger sample sizes is recommended to quantify the effects (e.g., changes in Ankle-Brachial Index/ABI) and determine the optimal duration of intervention. 1) Nursing Student of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong 2) Nursing Lecturer of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong
