Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the priority problems of the four Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) problems which include cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus. Diabetes Mellitus cases have continued to increase over the past few decades, according to IDF data in 2021, Indonesia ranks fifth in the world from China, India, Pakistan and the United States. The World Health Organization defines diabetes mellitus as a chronic metabolic disease with multiple etiologies characterized by elevated blood sugar levels and abnormalities in protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism due to inadequate insulin action. Insulin insufficiency can be caused by impaired synthesis of insulin by pancreatic beta cells or by decreased responsiveness of insulin body cells. Purpose: To determine whether there is a relationship between HBA1c levels and LDL cholesterol in patients with type II diabetes mellitus at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong hospital. Methods: This research is a quantitative study that uses a cross sectional approach, and the design used is Case control / Retrospective, retrospective, namely data collection techniques with data collection that has occurred or past / past because the author wants to provide evidence of the relationship between HbA1c levels with LDL cholesterol in type II diabetes mellitus patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong hospital with data collection using Medical Records with 35 respondents. Results: The results of the Spearman rank statistical test showed a significant value of p = 0.028 This shows that P < 0.05 so it can be concluded that Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted, which means that there is a relationship between HBA1c levels and LDL cholesterol in type II diabetes mellitus patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong, from these results it can be said that there is a fairly strong relationship between the two variables because the value is between 0.26-0.50. The correlation coefficient is 0.371 with a positive value so that it can be interpreted that the two variables have a unidirectional relationship. Conclusion: There is a relationship between HBA1c levels and LDL cholesterol in patients with type II diabetes mellitus at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong. Recommendations: Future researchers are expected to develop a research design by increasing the number of research samples and taking all lipid components such as triglycerides, total cholesterol, VLDL and HDL.
